‘We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.’ – Maya Angelou

Hello my lovely ones, happy new week!

Hope we’ve all been good and well rested for the week ahead. Happy Independence day to my fellow Ghanaians reading this! How did things go down on Independence day? Hope you had a nice time of it. 🙂

We had an eventful time of it, of morning swims and splash parties, and exploring the Aburi Botanical Gardens for the second weekend in a row. We went down trekking into the bush, with M beguiling me with tales about the time he went trekking alone for five hours through the New Zealand forest without a map and with a heavy downpour of rain. That man is crazy. Love him!

Then he suggested we go find Oyibi, it’s supposed to be somewhere around, so I shrugged, why not! And  away we went, grinding and bumping our way down a winding dirt road full of cruel-looking jagged rocks and potholes. After a highly exciting yet disastrous time of it, we wound up back in Accra at the Golden Tulip resort. Can’t wait to tell you more and show you the photos from this weekend.

I love how this weekend went. Back to challenging myself and rewriting the script of my life for myself, one small step at a time.

In the meantime, I’m beyond excited to show you this shoot today. Shot it about a week or so ago, back when I had this hairstyle, and I’ve been itching to post it since then. I’ve lately been a little bit…ok, thoroughly taken with the choker trend, and find ways and means of incorporating that into my daily looks. Also this headpiece. It is actually a neck piece, but the minute I laid my eyes on it, I knew it would be adorning my head as well. It gives an instant goddess vibe to everything I wear it with, and I love that. It’s bold, vibrant and beautiful.

SO. Today’s shoot.

I went for a Grecian goddess feel for the shoot. Inevitable, really, with this beautiful number of a white dress. You will notice the shoot is in phases (rebirths, as you will 🙂 ). For the 1st phase I went for a gypsy goddess feel. For the 2nd and 3rd phases of the shoot, a beautiful H&M necklace got re-purposed as a head piece, with gold earrings and gold make-up to match, for a full Grecian goddess look.

Aaaand, wait for it, all looks styled and shot by yours truly! Woo hoo. 😉

That our lives are ours for the living and always evolving, everyday an opportunity to effect a change, to go out of our comfort zone; everyday an opportunity for a rebirth. Rebirth after rebirth with each one bringing you closer into the person you were meant to be; your best self. With each rebirth your voice sharpens, and your message, your purpose, becomes clearer. The metamorphosis of  the process might not be painless, but it is always worth it.

For this year especially, one thing that we’re letting go off is the need for comfort and excessive preparation, and overly waiting for the “perfect” time to pursue what makes us come alive. So cheers to letting go into the throes of potential pain, and letting the process carry us away into bliss.

With loads of love,

It’s a beautiful day today. Not too hot, not too cold. The skies are beautifully blue, with hints of dark clouds here and there. Pure with a dark edge (kinda allegorical of human nature, hmm?). The kind of day I like the best. It would have been perfect if not for the drone of all these generators disturbing the natural peace and calm. Yes, it’s Dumsor season. Permanently so, actually. The electricity said hasta la vista to us ages ago and hardly popped by for a visit these last few weeks.

Ghana Ghana… but let’s not dwell on the negative on a day like this. There are so many broader events, experiences, etc that shape what happens to us on a smaller personal level. It’s as if we see life as through a veil indeed. What do we know for certain? The more we know, the more we don’t know… These events might influence who we are, but in the end it’s all down to us how we choose to perceive them, who we choose to become and what we choose to put out into the world. Let’s choose positivity. Let’s choose to put out kindness. Let’s choose the light.

I find photography deeply fascinating. They say that a photograph is worth a thousand words. Rightly so. A good photo has the power to grip you and transport you into another world entirely, a good photo can uplift you, fill you with a joy you cannot explain, and a hunger, inspiration to take charge of your own world, and to weave the strands together as magically as you glimpse in that photo. Photos inspire.

Little wonder then, that photography has grown to be one of my biggest passions…One of my new year resolutions this year actually, to be a “professional amateur” photographer. I know, lofty goals, right? But hey, they say to shoot for the sky, so yeah! And yeah, I’ve been working on it!!! There’s something about a good photograph that fills me a deep unexplainable happiness, and yet an angst; I am infused with so much inspiration. It’s my hope to share that with you everyday you are here. I feel so happy and blessed to be able to share bits and pieces of my life with you here, so happy when it resonates with you, and thrilled that I get to learn from you too. Thank you. And thank you Internet. 🙂

You cannot imagine how excited I am to bring this post to you today. It was getting to the end of the day, we were home tired after a long day away, but the light was just right, so what to do! I truly love how the spontaneous shadowy silhouettes turned out. I’m curious, which one is your favourite? Also, can you guess what I had on?? (Btw, remember that first silhouette shoot I did? Guess you can call this a series now. 🙂 ) We gather and wrap our clothes around us as armor, our protection and strength against whatever the day might decide to throw at us. I never felt as powerful as I did in this ensemble yesterday…Truly cannot wait to show you the actual shoot we did for this outfit yesterday, so stay tuuuuuned. 🙂

Hello guys!

I’m excited to bring you the second part of our shoot last weekend! How in the world is it Thursday already? And the middle of August?? Isn’t it funny how the time seems to inch by when we are small kids who cannot WAIT to grow up, but then just flies by when we get to twenty? Motion is the currency of the universe. We can’t rein it in. No choice but to let go of the reins and fly with the wind. I have to post more! I enjoy this space too much to have this any other way. I hope you do too!

Last Sunday, I felt like a goddess and decided to dress the part! Don’t you just love white? It’s just so pure and refreshing; calming in its monochromatic simplicity.

Also, it cannot be denied that a roomy high-low dress, especially in white, is an instant classic piece. I declare it a staple piece already! I love how simple it is, and yet statement making at the same time. Add golden accents and Ghanaian tropical beaches, and hello Grecian inspired beach goddess!

Enjoy the photos, and enjoy your weekend. Happy hump day!
