GOALS 2015

As I write this, we have no electricity, and my battery is almost all gone… once again the dumsor dumsor has begun… well, at least we had electricity through the holiday season… Life in Ghana… and yet, despite it all, I have such high hopes for Ghana. I have such high hopes for us all.

It’s been a long-standing tradition of mine to write a loooong list whenever I write my goals (I bet some of you do that too!). Honestly, although it satisfied that ambitious part of me, it was really quite difficult for me to remember exactly what was on that list. After years of forgetting what is on my list and all the overwhelm of not even knowing where to start in order to accomplish some of them, I had had enough!

Last year, I made a shift and started to focus on the top three areas of my life I’d like to improve. From these areas I then made and worked on regular sub-goals throughout the year. See? Simple and easy peasy! Last year the areas were

  • my relationship with God and my family
  • my writing
  • my education


Frankly, my life is so complicated right now that it’s been quite difficult to set some kinds of goals (eg travel.. having a family has its perks, but it has its downs too). However, I didn’t want to go entirely goal-less, so this is a good compromise!

This year holds so much promise! I’ve had my little angel, my energy levels are up, I feel amazing and ready to get into the thick of things. More vim! *flex muscles*



This year the areas of my life I’m zeroing in on (apart from obvious ones like for eg my kids’ development) are my fitness, friendships and my writing.

Get fit! 

How many of you are with me on this one?? Pretty countless, I bet! Ugh. I. need. to. lose. weight. Seriously! And more than that I’m seriously working on gaining back my abs; oh my poor six packs, where are you?!?!

For a start, I’m working out for at least ten minutes everyday as part of my morning routine. (I’ll make sure to post regular picture updates!)

Visit at least one friend every week.

Last year I didn’t hang out with my friends as much as I would have liked and I’d like to change that. It’s great that we are able to stay connected via social media but it’d be even better in person.

Write every day

Whether it’s on here creating for you and connecting with you, or offline in my ideabook or journal, I am writing and creating EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. because the best way to improve your writing is to practice practice practice everyday!

The blog!

This has become such a great fun space for me to get creative, connect and inspire, and I’m loving it. It gets better and more fun this year, I promise!

My wardrobe!

Can you believe almost nothing in my wardrobe fits me anymore? I’m in this awkward phase where my clothes pre-pregnancy don’t fit anymore and I’m soooo tired of the maternity clothes. Not to mention my style has evolved and is evolving. You know the feeling when your wardrobe is full but you feel you have nothing to wear…yeah, that.

Wardrobe emergency!!

Develop some valuable skills.

It’s difficult to get specific on these ones for some reasons, but I’ll be working on photography, sewing and cooking skills this year. Hopefully I’ll have the chance to take some short courses for them sometime in the year.

My themes for the year are reinvention and growth.

2014 has been a valuable learning experience for me, and through the pain, tears and adventures I have learnt a lot! This is the year I totally reinvent my style, my work, my life. This year, we take more risks, stand firmer for what we believe in, grow in all areas of life, no matter how difficult, cultivate some new positive habits!

You know how in the movies the turning point comes and the hero/heroine takes that life-changing step, walks through the no-turning-back door and everything drastically changes?

I’m walking through that door, and there is no turning back…

LIVE. Don’t over-think things. Don’t stay indoors and inside your head. Go out. Work hard, play harder. Make mistakes. A lot of them. Fail and fail hard. Then let the lessons guide you in your next ventures. Take care of your health – eat clean.

SEE. Look at people in the face when you talk to them. See people as they ARE inside, the labels do not matter. See the person, not the status, religion, colour, etc. SEE the individual. Try to catch the beauty of the sunrise and the sunset everyday in the morning and in the evening. Luxuriate in the beauty and colours of life. Be awash in them. Bathed in them. Ascend with them; be one with them.

LOVE. Profusely. Unrestrained. Be foolish, be all out. Hold nothing back. SHOW it in your actions, ALWAYS LET IT BE SEEN IN YOUR ACTIONS. 

DANCE. Feel the rhythm of life, and dance. EVERYDAY.

WRITE. Write often; write out your heart. If you say you are a writer, then WRITE.

READ. A book per month is ok, but a book per week would be great! Read wide, on diverse topics and areas of interest. Read, learn, apply. And Repeat.

CREATE. Most of all, DO create. Be characterized by movement, by action, and not just by desire. Create that song, create that art, create that design. You have it in you, please don’t let it go to waste. The world needs the creative contributions only you can contribute. Do not be selfish.greedy cat

“Tomorrow is not promised”

So says a bold sign at the roundabout area at the Accra Mall. Every time we drive past that area, my eyes are irresistibly drawn towards it, and it never fails to make me slow down on whatever I’m doing to just think about life.

We don’t like to think about our demise, but it is the most certain event to happen in our lives…and we don’t even know when it’s coming…

Today I’d like to leave you with this video from Steve Jobs, a talk he had at Standard University before he passed on.

It is one of the most inspiring videos I’ve ever come across, and I’d like to share it with you. Chances are, you probably already saw it?

3 Tips To Cure Boredom

If you are like me, you may have those days when you don’t feel like doing anything at all, not even getting out of bed. What’s the point of it all, you groan, absolutely demotivated.

What you might casually label as boredom could actually be a symptom of depression, so you might want to dig deeper into the roots of the problem and reach out to family or for professional help.

However, if it’s just simply boredom or one of those days, you could try one of these great tips.

  • Number one tip: take a cold shower.

Seriously. It really works! Taking cold showers has especially become an absolute staple for me, in light of ECG’s “dum-sor dum-sor” tricks and the hot steamy days we’ve been having.

The spray of the water into my face, running in rivulets down my neck and body, absolutely priceless. And it leaves you all refreshed, full of energy and wondering why you didn’t do this waaayyy earlier.

Next time you are in a demotivated funk, try it!

  • Read inspiring blogs.

Do you have some blogs or sites that you love to read? Perhaps they inspire you to create more or to be better in some way. Now might be a good time to head over there and read them! Read something butt-kicking inspiring.

I love Steve Pavlina‘s personal development blog! I discovered it about two years ago, and he’s actually the one who inspired me to start blogging. That blog has seriously helped me through some bad times.

  • Call a friend who inspires you.

There exists a friend who sticks closer than a brother…

If you have surrounded yourself with positive-minded friends who uplift and inspire you to be better, this is a great time when they come in handy! Remember what Jim Rohn said; we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with, so choose wisely…

 In the end, the best motivation comes from within, your internal condition.

Remind yourself of your life purpose, and why you wish to fulfill it. Then get out of bed and do something, anything, no matter how small, that moves you toward the fulfillment of that purpose.

Always begin your day with that WHY in your head. The reason you are alive. Your life purpose and why you wish to fulfil it. It will keep you going even through the darkest times.
